Team BC parents connect at the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games

Hockey and ringette parents are usually in the stands in cold ice rinks cheering loudly for their children. But, on BC Family Day, they joined other Team BC parents and supporters at a cheer breakfast at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown.

It was a day of upsets for Team BC at the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games as freestyle skiing took home a pair of gold medals in aerials and table tennis delivered bronze in mixed doubles.

Teammates Joel Ewert (Prince George) and Ben Hagkull (Chilliwack) met at an event when they were five years old and have been side-by-side at sport camps and provincial, national and international competitions ever since.

Strength and focus: getting to know Oonah Gamboa, Team BC’s flag-bearer

It has been a whirlwind of activity for Oonah Gamboa (Vancouver) since arriving in PEI for the 2023 Canada Winter Games as the 17-year-old karate athlete carried the Team BC flag into the Games opening ceremony.
