Daily Update Title
Team BC flag bearer selected

Congratulations to Wendy Zhang, badminton, who was selected to be Team BC's Closing Ceremony flag bearer.

Zhang (Richmond) has two gold medals at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in women's singles and women's doubles with a potential for team bronze today. She is a junior national team member and a Pan American Junior silver medallist. She was the 2019 national semi-finalist in women's singles and the senior provicncial women's singles champion. She has a national ranking of third.

Team BC had a strong showing in archery capturing three of a possible four individual medals in the mixed team event.

Spencer Gamache (Quesnel) - compound - and Adi Shapira (Vancouver) - recurve - bring silver medals back to BC for their outstanding performances, while Adam Deane - recurve - brings home a bronze.

In squash, after going down a set, Lucia Bicknell (West Vancouver) stormed back to defeat Charlotte Orcutt of Ontario 3-1 to win the gold medal in women's singles.

That gold medal tied Team BC's all-time gold medal mark of 28 medals won at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Maggie Crompton (Whistler) won a silver medal at Canada Olympic Park in snowboard half pipe. It's an event she doesn't usually compete in.

Jadyn Chomlack (Pemberton) won a bronze medal Thursday in slopestyle and followed that up with a bronze medal in half pipe.

In the men’s curling semi-final, the men’s team played a dramatic game against Manitoba. It was a rematch against the only team that beat them in the round robin. Manitoba got off to a hot start, but Team BC scored a single point with the hammer in extra ends to claim the victory, sending them to the gold medal game.

Team BC judo ended their Canada Games story in style with two silver medals.

The men improved upon their bronze placing at the 2015 Games, taking the silver medal.

On the women's side, BC moved through to the finals by defeating Quebec — a team they had not previously beat in this event.

In the finals, it was Alberta that won the gold medal but Team BC improved upon their fourth place finish from the 2015 Games.
