Phase one of the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games has come to a close with Team BC atop the leader board with 169 medals and many personal best performances. Phase two athletes have arrived in Wood Buffalo and are ready to compete for their province beginning August 14.
“The athletes are excited to race… many have commented how much they like the facility and are looking forward to competition,” shared Carrie Matheson, Team BC Swim Coach. “Exploring the venue has brought many surprises whether it was the lounges or the ‘riff off’ competition they had with another province. (The athletes) are loving the village!”
Partners, families, and supporters have been a critical component to get Team BC ready to compete at these Games. Whether in the stands or cheering from home, friends and family are encouraged to use social media for Team BC updates and to share their Games experience. Leaving a Legacy
Team BC – including its athletes, coaches, and mission staff – make it a priority to have an impact on the community, tying this generation of young athletes to the next. This year in Wood Buffalo, Team BC has partnered with Mi Kids Fort McMurray to provide children in Fort McMurray with access to sport. During Team BC’s Phase Two Pep Rally yesterday, Team BC provided a cash donation of $1594.30 to Mi KIDS whose mission is to ensure financial assistance to Wood Buffalo youth and families that face barriers to participation in sport, recreation, social and cultural programs and activities.
