On November 5, 2020, the Coaching Association of Canada™ (CAC) in partnership with Petro-Canada recognized 23 coaches from 10 sports at a virtual celebration of the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala. These annual Coaching Excellence Awards recognize coaches whose athletes have excelled at world championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and at the Special Olympics World Games. Petro-Canada has honoured 1,259 coaches with this award since 1986.
Two of the recipients from B.C. are former Team BC manager, Curt DeWolff, and coach, Richard Wooles. DeWolff was the manager for Gymnastics at the 2015 Canada Winter Games and received the award for coaching gymnast Samantha Smith. Wooles was the coach for Cycling at the 2009 and 2017 Canada Summer Games and received the award for coaching para-cyclist Ross Wilson. We congratulate them both on receiving this well-deserved honour.
