Team Saskatchewan downed Team BC at wheelchair basketball 58-50, despite a big effort from the Team BC bench.
Getting off to a slow start in the consolation round of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, Team BC was trailing by 17 points at the half 40-23.
After pushing back with strong defence, Team BC found themselves only trailing by six points with a score of 52-46 in the fourth quarter.
The Team BC bench chipped in 19 points and Ben Hagkull led all BC players with 38:17 of floor time. He had a team high eight assists.
Leading scorers for Team BC put in double-doubles with Nicholas van Bakel (Pender Island) scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and Game Harrison (Pender Island) scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Matthew Norris (Maple Ridge) had eight points in the game.
Team BC will play their last match at the Canada Winter Games on Thursday, Feb. 21 against Manitoba at 11 a.m. A win will secure sixth place for Team BC, which would be the best finish the team has had in the last three Canada Winter Games.
