Team BC split their double-header game day on Tuesday at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
Gabriel Harrison (Pender Island) led Team BC with 15 points to help sink Team Newfoundland 49-31. Nicholas van Bakel (Pender Island) had 11 points and Megan Smith had a field goal percentage of 100 per cent.
“This was our second win for BC,” said Ryleigh Bissenden (Victoria). “We played hard and aggressive defence and it paid off.”
BC had only a few hours before they had to face Ontario.
Despite each team scoring 24 points in the second half and Team BC outscoring Ontario in the third quarter, Ontario came out on top 63-39.
Tanner Jung (Langley) led the way on offence with 14 points followed by van Bakel, who had 11 points.
The game, aired on TSN, will go in the Games record books as the first with three female officials.
Team BC finishes third in Pool B and will play in the consolation round against Saskatchewan on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
