Boxers take the stage at Team BC pep rally
Team BC had a big day of training at Red Deer College for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

With competition not starting until Feb. 17, Team BC boxers have two days to get settled into their Red Deer routines before jumping in the ring.

Off the field of play, Brayden Sims (Fort St. John) and Dylan Clark (Cranbrook) gave the traditional welcome and introduced the Jamin Zuroski-designed Team BC scarf during the Team BC pep rally.

The boxers then headed to the Opening Ceremony where they were busy meeting athletes from other provinces and were trading pins.

The Opening Ceremony ended with a dance party, where all the athletes crammed to the front of the stage while Canadian country music star Brett Kissel was performing.

"The music was awesome," said Clark.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games cauldron was lit in spectacular fashion with a rope used as a fuse that when lit, sent sparks upwards.

"I loved the way they lit the torch. That was pretty cool," said boxing coach Bill Watson (Cranbrook).
