7 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze cap off successful week

15 medals won by Team BC wrestlers
The Team BC wrestlers were ready for the individual competition on Friday at the Canada Games.
In the morning and afternoon sessions, the wrestlers took to the mat in qualification and placing bouts with eight women and all 11 men earning places in the medal rounds.

The women had seven wrestlers going for gold and they impressed with a perfect record bringing home seven gold for to add to their gold medal team performance from yesterday.

“I was ready and well prepared.  I wrestled her before in the duals so I had a feel of how she wrestles and how she moves but, I was definitely faster and more on my toes.”

“It feels really good because I worked really hard this year and working with my coaches with my technique and my physical strength really helped me get through this match.”

With all 11 men qualifying for the medal rounds the expectations were high.   Two silver and six bronze where won by the end of the night to go along with the silver earned in the team competition yesterday.

“I feel decent but not too happy with my performance.  I was very proud of all my teammates.  It is a once in a lifetime experience and I have met a lot of new people and I am really glad to be here.”

MILLS, Kye (Coquitlam) – Bronze in 52kg and Silver in Team
On the tournament overall
“It wasn’t the medal I wanted but, it’s still a medal and you can’t argue with that.  It was a fun tournament overall.”
