Team BC squash athletes jumped right into competition on Sunday after arriving to the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer on Saturday.
Sam Scivier (Vancouver) defeated Seif Elficky 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 and will move to the semi-final round on Monday in the men’s individual event.
“I really enjoyed the team spirit today at the courts. It was a fantastic atmosphere and I’m looking forward to bringing that same energy to the rest of the week,” said Scivier.
Matt Bicknell (West Vancouver) was defeated by Douglas Kosciukiewicz of Nova Scotia 7-11, 8-11 and 2-11. Bicknell will now move to the consolation round.
In the women’s individual event Lucia Bicknell (West Vancouver) will move to the semi-finals on Monday after defeating Iman Shaheen of Quebec 13-11, 11-6 and 11-10.
Sarah Cao (Richmond) made it to the quarterfinal match by was defeated 12-10, 11-8 and 11-8. She will move to the consolation round.
In the men’s team event Team BC, which consists of Scivier, Bicknell, James Toth (Richmond) and Gabriel Yun (Richmond) defeated Alberta 3-1. Bicknell came back from a 2-0 deficit to win in five games.
The women’s team, consisting of Cao, Quan Ng (), Lucia Bicknell (West Vancouver) and Cindy Cao (Richmond) also defeated Alberta 3-1.
Scivier will play in the semi-final of the men’s individual event at 9 a.m. against Neil Ismail from Ontario. Bicknell will play against Antonio Medes from Alberta in the consolation round at 9 a.m.
Lucia Bicknell is in the semi-finals on Monday at 9:40 a.m. and will play Bethany Churchill from Alberta. Sarah Cao will play Jana Dweek in the consolation at 9:40 a.m.
The women’s team will play at 3:30 p.m. against Manitoba.
